After two weeks of cancelled matches, finally I play my first game of the season (albeit for the Lilly Works team against Sygenta, in a T20 friendly).
Safe to say I am far from match fit! I scored 27no (have to retire once you pass 25) whilst opening the batting, on an slow, low artificial wicket. I felt I got my eye in, and played my shots when and where I could. (27 off 28 balls isn't that bad as a lot of my current/former team mates could vouch for)
My keeping on the other hand was very rusty indeed. My feet were good, but my hands were very slow and I was 'snatching' at the ball a lot.
The weather was beautiful and like the epic Wednesbury 3rd Team games, our over-rate was so slow, we finished the game in the dark!
Lilly got 127-7 off 20 overs and Sygenta knocked it off with 4 balls to spare (comfortable).
I think we lost the game in the middle overs / near the end of our innings. There were a lot of 'hit/hope/miss' shots in our innings, instead of just getting bat on ball and running. In addition, we bowled a few full tosses / a few misfields which also cost us runs. All round there is improvement to be made, but the game was a good laugh and played in the right spirit. (No real trash talk #corporate)
Bring on the weekend and the 1st XI vs Swindon - which will be a whole new kettle of fish!
